just thinkin’
I know it’s kind of the popular thing nowadays to self-diagnose a mental disorder, but I would really appreciate it if people could… not do it so freely, so people afflicted with those disorders are taken more seriously and their conditions are not trivialized. I’m not saying that feeling sad every once in a while isn’t possibly indicative of a more pervasive case of depression. Nor am I saying that constantly feeling that everything needs to be in a certain place definitely isn’t suggestive of being obsessive-compulsive. But I think people really need to understand that “oh, I’m down this week” and “I’m a neat freak” might not be as big of a deal as they might believe. Mood swings happen. The brain favors organization to certain degrees. These things are not anomalous— you might just have become conscious of it and turned it into an obsession. In addition, one cannot ”be OCD”.
That all being said, please don’t let me trivialize anything that you might be experiencing, if you’re reading this and have been questioning your mental health. We are all on this ride together, and I can’t know how it is to live your life. I respect your ability to judge your brain activity like a responsible adult. Never be sorry or ashamed to feel how you feel. If you need help, seek it.
